The parent of a Santa Barbara County Jail inmate reported that a “very big riot” took place at the facility on Sunday, May 22. “, she said, “and almost all of them were pepper sprayed. Tracy Macuga, chief of the public defender’s office, said her department was notified on Tuesday that “a major incident has occurred at the [jail] which is currently under investigation and that the prison would be closed for the rest of the week. No other details were provided, Macuga said. Attempts to reach the top jailer, Chief Deputy Vincent Wasilewski, were unsuccessful at press time.
