Want to know when the Guardian is coming to Minecraft? Those of you who want a little more horror in your Minecraft should be very excited. The Guardian adds some much-needed terror to your underground escapades. This new host of mini-bosses have ravaged the darkest depths of the overworld, creating Deep Dark cities that are teeming with Sculk growths. Below, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about the Guardian, including when the Guardian is coming to Minecraft, what it will do, and how to distract it so you can get home alive.

When will the guardian come out?

The Warden and The Deep Dark biome will launch in Minecraft 1.19, also known as The Wild Update. This is expected to launch sometime in 2022. Luckily, The Wild will also introduce cute frogs and fireflies. Maybe we’ll just stick to exploring the new swamps and avoid the Deep Dark altogether, in fact. Adorable frogs sound so much better than scaring my skin, thank you so much.

The Warden was originally slated to launch in the Caves and Cliffs update in Summer 2021. However, that update was split into two parts, with The Warden and the Deep Dark pushed into the second half, known as from Caves and Cliffs part 2, or Minecraft 1.18.

During Minecraft Live 2021, Mojang then revealed that the Warden and Deep Dark would be pushed back even further, announcing that they will now be coming to Minecraft 1.19 in 2022. Caves and Cliffs part 2 is now live, bringing a significant overhaul to the terrain generation with lots of new biomes, such as Dripstone Caves.

What is the Guardian in Minecraft?

The Guardian is an extremely powerful hostile mob that can kill you with a single hit unless you are wearing Netherite armor. However, he has a key weakness that you’ll need to exploit if you want to escape alive.

The Guardian is blind, which means he can only locate you by following sounds. If you want to survive an encounter with this fearsome enemy, you must sneak around until you find an exit. Even Mojang themselves say you shouldn’t fight guardians, describing them as “more like a natural disaster” than a traditional boss.

Every noise you make will create a vibration that will alert the Guardian, bringing them closer. If you want to go mining, it’s best to go alone, as the Guardian will also hear and attack other mobs, including friendly axolotls and foxes.

How do you find the Guardian in Minecraft?

The Guardian will spawn in a new biome called Deep Dark. This is in the deepest part of the Overworld, near the Bedrock layer. As you explore the Deep Dark, you will discover the growth of Sculk, which is a new type of block that will come to Minecraft alongside the Guardian.

As you move and produce sounds, the vibrations you produce will travel through Sculk’s Growth and work their way through the Deep Dark. As the vibrations spread, the guardian will hear the movement and come to investigate.

Very little is yet known about the Deep Dark, but it appears to contain some valuable loot. In the first look at Minecraft 1.18 shared during Minecraft Live 2020, we got a glimpse of some hidden chests in the Deep Dark. If you’re brave enough to sneak past and skilled enough to avoid the guardian, you might find some valuable treasure to take home.

Minecraft Live 2021 has shared more details about the Deep Dark, showing that it will contain entire towns overrun by Sculk. The Guardian will haunt these towns, but you can find valuable loot there that should tempt seasoned adventurers.

How to Distract the Guardian in Minecraft

You’ll know when the Guardian is near because nearby candles and other light sources will begin to flicker. If the guardian is nearby, you can distract him by throwing something at him to make noise. For example, if you shoot an arrow or throw a snowball, the guardian will investigate the sound and give you a chance to escape.

Since the Guardian is so powerful, you should avoid fighting it at all costs. If you decide to attack, the guardian will gain in power and become even more formidable. Killing players wearing full Netherite armor in two hits is bad enough, so please don’t make it worse. Just make sure you have snowballs instead.
