LOWNDES COUNTY, Mississippi (WCBI) – The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department honored fallen officers from years past and now they have something to show for it.

Agencies across the country participated in ceremonies for Law Enforcement Week.

Several local agencies gathered at the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office today for a moment of silence, a song honoring officers who make the ultimate sacrifice and the unveiling of a statue dedicated to officers who died in the drill. of their functions.

Lowndes County Sheriff Eddie Hawkins says it’s a ceremony his department doesn’t take for granted.

“These officers are dedicated. They provided service for a number of years, and then they made that ultimate sacrifice. They actually lost their lives in the line of duty and that’s why we want to remember these people. We want their loved ones to know that they will never be forgotten; That we are there for them and that we support them. Having this little service like this is just one sign we can do to show families that we care and are here for them,” Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said.
