An inmate escaped from the Webster County Jail around 11 p.m. Saturday, according to the Webster County Sheriff’s Office. Police said inmate Jordan Mefferd, 43, of Fort Dodge, escaped through a third story window using tarpaulins to descend into an alleyway. Officers learned that Mefferd was likely in a silver car after his escape. At approximately 1:15 a.m. Sunday, the silver car was spotted in Otho. When an officer called a traffic stop, the driver took off. Officers chased the vehicle while Fort Dodge police used stop sticks that punctured the driver’s tires. A slow speed chase ended on 14th Street South with two suspects arrested without incident. Mefferd faces charges of escape and criminal flight. Destiny Sumpter, 27, is charged with breach of probation and aiding and abetting a criminal escape. The Webster County Sheriff‘s Office is continuing its investigation into the matter.
